It is found in the eastern United States and Canada. Its forest masses, production and export are stable.
Description of the wood
The colour of the sapwood is white, and the heartwood is dark brown, which may occasionally have greyish or purple colourations. The fibre is straight, although it may occasionally have a wavy fibre. The grain is fine.
Natural durability
The wood is classified as non-durable against the action of fungi and sensitive to insects and termites. The heartwood is moderately or slightly penetrable, while the sapwood is penetrable.
Applications and use
The wood of these trees is hard and resistant, and due to this it is sought after for the manufacture of furniture, parquets, or for carpentry work.
