Cumaru is a very heavy wood, with low linear shrinkage and stable volumetric shrinkage.

Origin and availability

It is one of the most expensive woods of Paraguay. For furniture, joinery, veneers, and laminates.

Description of the wood

Being a hardwood, Cumaru can be used for bodywork, bridges, heavy construction, parquets, balusters, staircases and as a striped board for use in both indoor and outdoor joinery.

Natural durability

The wood is classified as not durable against the action of fungi and sensitive to insects and termites.

The heartwood has moderate or low penetrability, while the sapwood is penetrable.

Applications and use

The wood of this tree is hard and resistant, and due to this is very sought after for the manufacture of furniture and parquets and for joinery work.
